Nonprofit, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF), recently elected philanthropist Cynthia Lufkin to its Board of Directors, following three years of service on its Advisory Board. Ms. Lufkin graduated from Trinity College in Hartford with a degree in biochemistry during which she was awarded a fellowship in immunology from the University of Connecticut Medical School.
In conjunction with the Peter Jay Sharp Foundation, Ms. Lufkin has supported a Breast Cancer Research Foundation-funded project at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center on development of a DNA vaccine for breast cancer, vaccine research led by Drs. Larry Norton and Alan Houghton.
Ms. Lufkin lives in Connecticut and New York City with her husband and three children.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder as an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding innovative clinical and translational research. In October 2009, nearly $29 million will be awarded to 171 scientists across the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia.
